At a time when the government is actively seeking to promote higher apprenticeships, it seems ironic that this route is not currently available for those aspiring to become career development professionals.

To address this, an employers’ group representing the careers sector has been working to produce a Higher Apprenticeship Standard for Career Development Professionals   The Standard provides an occupational profile with the duties that a fully competent employee should be able to undertake when working in the occupation.  It also sets out the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required by the individual to successfully carry out the duties.  These are developed through employment and ‘off-the- job’ training which includes the attainment of a careers related qualification  recognised by the Career Development Institute as giving eligibility to the Register of Career Development Professional; that is 60 credits@ level 6 or higher.

On completion of an apprenticeship programme designed in accordance with the Standard, an apprentice is referred by the employer for an independent end point assessment.   The assessment is to determine that the apprentice is able to undertake the full range of occupational duties set out in the Standard.

Prior to submitting the Standard and the End Point Assessment to the Institute of Apprentices for approval, we invite you to review the following documents and complete a short survey monkey.

The documents are:
(You may find the Higher Apprenticeship flow chart useful in understanding the process following approval of the Standard by the Institute of Apprentices.)

The CDI has been supporting the work of the Employers’ Group and is sending out this Survey Monkey on their behalf.

The closing date for the survey monkey is 12 noon on 12 September 2018.
