Avian Flu Impacts

In order to provide an informed picture of the impact Avian Flu is having on the island beaches and to provide feedback to Marine Scotland and other government organisations SIF are collecting information from our beach cleaning organisations/ individuals.

1.Have you found any dead birds which you think have died from Avian Flu on your local beaches?
2.Please identify which island you live on which beaches you clean, even if you haven't seen any dead birds.
3.Have any of the birds been taken away for testing to confirm it is Avian Flu?
4.Who owns/has responsibility for the land on which you are finding dead birds?
5.Have you as an organisation/individual taken any action to remove the birds?

 
6.Are you following the Defra advice on protecting yourselves and the general public?
7.Have you carried out a risk assessment?
8.Have you sourced and are you using full PPE?
9.Have you used the Defra telephone line to report the problem?
10.What advice/help have you had with regard to the disposal of the dead birds after collection?
11.Do you have an active disposal protocol? Would you be happy to share it with other groups?
12.How is the time spent removing the birds affecting your other project delivery?
13.What species of birds are you finding? Approximately how many of each?
14.Where do you think they are being washed up from? (Do you have any colonies close to you, either on your island or offshore?)
