Peer Learning: Developing Your Volunteers, Thursday 9 November 2017, 10am - 12pm

Peer Learning: Developing Your Volunteers, Thursday 9 November 2017, 10am - 12pm

Do you want to be better at enabling your volunteers to continue to develop their skills?  This can help with volunteer retention and result in happier and more effective volunteers.

This practical Peer Learning session will be led by Whizz Kidz, a disability charity who recently passed the Investing in Volunteers Quality Standard.

The session will cover:
·         Planning your volunteer roles so that you can offer opportunities for progression and development
·         Ensuring your selection process explores volunteers’ aptitude for roles and their development needs
·         Different types of training, including combined training for both staff and volunteers, and a demonstration of Whizz Kidz’ on-line learning modules
·         Tips for supporting volunteers to take on formal or informal leadership roles
·         Managing volunteer expectations when more demanding roles or development opportunities are not available
·         Discussing your own organisation’s successes and challenges in developing your volunteers, and hearing from others
·         Sharing your own examples of good practice (please come prepared to share one example).

The session will be led by Jo Rhodes-Jiao (Head of Volunteering) and Amy Senior (Volunteer Programme Manager), who have 40 years of combined experience in managing volunteers at Whizz Kidz and other organisations including VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas), vinspired and UpRising.

It takes place at Volunteer Centre Tower Hamlets, 2nd Floor, Norvin House, 45-55 Commercial Street, E1 6BD.
