Botesdale and Rickinghall currently have just under 1000 homes and have grown by an average of 12 houses per year since 2002. Predicted housing growth in the East of England region means that additional housing in the Mid Suffolk District Council area is inevitable. MSDC does not have an up-to-date Local Plan to guide planning (a new Plan is currently being drafted) so we don’t know how much development we can expect. Botesdale and Rickinghall cannot be insulated from change – “no development here” is not a realistic option. But we can influence the location of new development in the villages so that we –
- maintain the general character and layout of the village;
- try to meet the needs of local people; and
- minimize the adverse impact on local infrastructure, facilities and other assets.
In this part of the survey we will be addressing the issues of development and new housing as well as collecting general information about living in the parishes of Botesdale and Rickinghall. We will ask more specific questions about your personal housing needs in Part 2.
