What is a Hate Crime?
Hate crime is a crime that can happen to a person because they are different.
This could be because of their:
1. learning/physical disability
2. race
3. religion
4. sexuality
5. gender
6. some other difference
Hate crimes are acts of violence or hostility. For example, you may have been shouted at by someone in the street because you are disabled.
Mate crimes happen when you are befriended by someone who later takes advantage of you because you are different.
We want to learn more about:
a) hate and mate crime within Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere
b) what you think about hate/mate crime and how it affects you
c) why you might not tell somebody about hate/mate crime
d) finding the best way of dealing with hate/mate crime
e) what people and organisations can do to help stop hate/mate crime
