ArtsPAL (Preserve Active Life) Befriender Network |
Empowering individuals with a dementia to thrive
– through shared creative interests.
Arts 4 Dementia is coordinating a network of volunteer cultural and creative befrienders to facilitate social prescribing for individuals as pre- and post-diagnostic support for dementia. The idea being that engaging in cultural and creative activity from the first symptoms of cognitive decline can enable effective and ongoing diversion during the loss-focussed assessment process, so as to help override symptoms and ease diagnostic concerns.
ArtsPALs can enable individuals to access to weekly stimulation at arts venues or online which will help combat loneliness and preserve their resilience in the community for longer.
Matched by shared interests, ArtsPALs will accompany each other to weekly cultural, creative and wellbeing activities.
The ArtsPAL Befriend Network signposts to local registered befriender opportunities or organisations, to be recommended to individuals during assessment for dementia, on diagnosis and as post-diagnostic support. The ArtsPAL Befriender Network webpage provides links to network organisations.
