We are asking for your views on changes to our Corporate Enforcement Policy.

The last version was written in 2014. We now need to update this to ensure we can do what we need to as a Council.

Our enforcement work aims to protect the public, environment, consumers and businesses by making sure that legal requirements are met. This is not just about taking formal action (e.g prosecution). We try to work with people to give advice and help them get things right.

We use this policy in many of our services. These include Licensing, Planning, Environmental Health, Housing and Benefits.

What's changed in the policy?
  • Small wording changes to better explain how the policy will be used
  • Being able to charge for some notices
  • Being able to take a civil penalty prosecution route instead of using the courts
Read the full document here.

The policy follows what we allowed to do by law.

Please respond by 17 June, 2018. Feedback will be brought to full Council in July, where a final version of the policy will be approved.
