Proposals to Introduce a Pay & Conserve Parking Scheme - Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor National Park Authority is consulting on proposals to introduce formal charges through a Pay and Conserve scheme at some car parks within the National Park.

We are looking at better ways to manage our car parks, so that we can continue to maintain and improve visitor facilities, promote key messages to the public, and support the Authority’s work to improve public access, conserve precious wildlife and important heritage sites.

Our current voluntary donation scheme for car parks shows that donation levels have fallen to as low as 15p per vehicle. This is not sustainable as significant investment is needed to maintain car parks and visitor facilities over the coming years and we are no longer able to rely on voluntary donations alone.

The Authority is considering introducing charges at five car parks:

Haytor Lower car park
Haytor Upper car park
Postbridge car park
Meldon Reservoir car park
Newbridge car park

The proposed charges would apply all year round between 10am and 6pm each day:

All day £2
