NHS England, the body oversee the NHS across the country, have published a document called ‘the long term plan’ which sets out what they would like local NHS bodies to focus on over the next 10 year.  The Plan, (https://www.longtermplan.nhs.uk/) published in January 2019, sets out ambitions for how the NHS can improve over the next decade We are updating our plans in line with that but taking into account the needs of our local population and the many improvements we have already made.

There are many different parts of the NHS including hospitals, GPs and community services.  We have a limited amount of money so a big part of our work is about understanding the needs of our residents and working out which services are the most important, which need more work and which can be provided in a better way to help you.

The NHS wants to make it easier for people to access support closer to home and via technology, doing more to help people stay well, and providing better support for people with cancer, mental health conditions, heart and lung diseases, long-term conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis, learning disabilities and autism, and for people as they get older and experience conditions such as dementia.

What do we want to talk about?

The NHS is looking to focus on a number of areas that it feels will make the biggest difference to peoples’ health.

Some of the main areas are:

1.       To improve care that is provided locally

2.       To help people know when to use A&E and direct people where to go when it is not an emergency

3.       To help people understand and use health digital technology

4.       To join up health and care services to make sure everyone in our community has access to the right care when they need it.

What next?

The next step is we would like to ask you some questions about some of the areas highlighted to find out your thoughts and how they could be improved.

Most of the questions are ticked box responses while others provide you with the opportunity to provide further comments. All responses are anonymous but you will be offered the opportunity to provide your contact if you would like a copy of the feedback from survey or if you would like to be in helping to improve your local NHS.
