Peer Learning: Data Protection and Volunteers, Tuesday 11 July 2017, 2pm - 4pm

Peer Learning: Data Protection and Volunteers, Tuesday 11 July 2017, 2pm - 4pm

In May 2018, new regulations come into force intended to give individuals greater control over how organisations use their data. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will affect how charities work with data and look after this valuable information. The session will cover:

· What will your organisation need to start doing now in the run up to the implementation of the GDPR, in relation to volunteers?

· What are the key changes that you need to consider in terms of volunteers' personal data (e.g. getting consent, storing & deleting personal information, subject access requests)

· What policies and processes should organisations put in place to manage volunteers who might have access to service-users personal data (e.g. the volunteers might input personal data into the charities' database, or have access to personal data on vulnerable clients/young people (under-18s). How can data breaches be avoided?

This practical Peer Learning session will be led by Mark Burnett, a fully trained Data Protection Officer and Head of Charity Partnerships at ClearComm, an organisation delivering training, audit and monitoring services on GDPR. He is an experienced fundraiser and marketer and can offer a unique insight into how GDPR will impact on the voluntary sector.

Time permitting, this will be followed by an ‘Air and Share’ session for Volunteer Managers to discuss current issues and concerns on any volunteer management topic, and to get input from VCTH staff and other Volunteer Managers in a safe and confidential environment.

It takes place at Attlee Centre, 5 Thrawl Street, London, E1 6RT.
