Thank you for your interest in taking part in this research.
We are looking for young people between 12-18 years old who identify as Black or Black mixed-race to join our online focus groups to share their views and experiences on mental health with researchers.
We know that young people from Black and Black mixed-race backgrounds face inequalities in their experiences and outcomes in mental health. However, there is a lack of research exploring young people’s perspective as well as how they would like to be supported. We want to hear from Black and Black-mixed race young people about:
- What you think and feel about mental health support and care
- The routes to getting mental health support
- Mental health awareness
- Mental health support that is relevant to their cultural identity and heritage
- The effect of mental health stigma - refers to the public or internal negative or discriminatory attitudes towards mental health
This research will help to directly address the lack of data on mental health of young people from Black and Black mixed-race backgrounds in the UK. It will also inform our work advocating for better mental health support and care for young people from these communities as well as offering more accessible information and resources. Findings from this research will be written up and published in a report later this year.
You will be given a £20 Amazon voucher as a thank you for attending the focus group which will last around an hour.
