The mental health experiences of Black and Black mixed-race young people
Thank you for your interest in taking part in this research. This research is a part of the Young Changemakers programme which is a collaboration between Centre for Mental Health, UK Youth and The Diana Award. The programme aims to equip young people aged 16 to 25 with the tools to produce social action projects aimed at tackling mental health inequalities in racialised communities. Find out more about the Young Changemakers programme.
We know that young people from Black and Black mixed-race backgrounds face inequalities in their experiences and outcomes in mental health. However, there is a lack of research exploring young people’s perspective as well as how they would like to be supported. We want to hear from Black and Black-mixed race young people about:
- What you think and feel about mental health support and care
- The routes to getting mental health support
- Mental health awareness
- Mental health support that is relevant to their cultural identity and heritage
- The effect of mental health stigma - refers to the public or internal negative or discriminatory attitudes towards mental health
This survey is aimed at young people between 12-18 years old who identify as Black or Black mixed-race.
This research will help to directly address the lack of data on mental health of young people from Black and Black mixed-race backgrounds in the UK. It will also inform our work advocating for better mental health support and care for young people from these communities as well as offering more accessible information and resources. Findings from this research will be written up and published in a report later this year.
Closing date: The survey will remain open until 5pm Friday 16th June 2023.
