Alan Barnes died in 1987 and to honour his memory, the Barnes family in conjunction with the Royal Society of Ulster Architects and Queen’s University Belfast have set up the Alan Barnes Travel Scholarship Award to help architectural students to travel and to study architecture overseas. The scholarship is a minimum of £500 but could be as much as £1,000 depending on the nature of the proposed trip.

By submitting this registration form you are agreeing to provide a written submission of no more than 500 words to jude@rsua.org.uk by midnight on 21 February 2020 describing how you would make best use of the Alan Barnes Scholarship both in your travels and after your return. If you are shortlisted you’ll be invited to attend a short interview in person or online. During your trip you will update a live Twitter feed, and take photos to support your travel review which will be published in Perspective, the Journal of the Royal Society of Ulster Architects. Upon your return, you will be expected to deliver a presentation to the RSUA Council in January 2021 and you may be invited to present to a group of 3rd year students at both Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University.
