Nominations are now open for the GRR Awards 2019

Global Restructuring Review's 3rd Annual Awards Ceremony will take place on Saturday 15 June 2019 in the beautiful city of Barcelona, ahead of the International Insolvency Institute's 19th Annual Conference. As always, the GRR Awards will be held in aid of the Swawou Layout School for Girls in Sierra Leone.

We want to hear your ideas for nominees in eight awards categories this year:
  • Most important cross-border recognition decision
  • Innovation in cross-border restructuring and insolvency
  • Cross-border cooperation in a specific restructuring or insolvency matter
  • Jurisdiction of the year
  • Most significant restructuring or insolvency-related litigation
  • Best overall development
  • Diversity in restructuring award for a team or practice
  • Advisory firm that impressed
Nominations should relate to developments that occurred between March 2018 and March 2019.

We will compile the best nominations into shortlists for each category. 

The deadline for making nominations is Monday 8 April 2019.

What was the most important cross-border recognition decision handed down, globally, between March 2018 and March 2019?

Tell us your thoughts below. We want to know:
  • The full name of the decision
  • The date it was handed down
  • The name of the court and judge that issued it
  • Why you think it is the most important recognition decision in the time period?

* 2. Award for innovation in cross-border insolvency and restructuring

What was the greatest innovation in cross-border insolvency and restructuring during the research period?

We want to know:
  • Who did the innovating?
  • Why it was innovative?
  • How it might change things in cross-border restructuring and insolvency in future?

* 3. Award for cross-border cooperation in a specific insolvency or restructuring matter

We are looking for particular instances of excellent cooperation here.

We need:
  • The name of the case it occurred in
  • The details of the cooperation process
  • Why it worked and why it is worthy of an award
  • Who was behind the process? Counsel? Judges? Insolvency office-holders? Debtors? Creditors? Please give specific details of the names involved.

Many jurisdictions have witnessed changes to their insolvency and restructuring environments over the last year, including some who have introduced new legislation. 
  • Which is the most improved jurisdiction? 
  • Why?

Was there a particular court decision that will permanently change how things are done in the past year? What about the reversal of a long-standing precedent? Perhaps the fact of the litigation itself taking place is the significant factor? 

We want to know:
  • The name of the case and the main parties concerned
  • Why it is/was hugely significant
  • The courts and judges involved 
  • Which lawyers argued the significant points at play

* 7. Diversity in restructuring award for a team or practice

Whether it's the sustained promotion of female staff, or the development of specialist programmes for diversity in the workplace, GRR wants to award firms and restructuring teams that have taken extra steps to be inclusive from the point of view of gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. 

We would like to know:
  • Details of programmes or specific developments that deserve to win a diversity award
  • What practical impact they have had at the firm and in its restructuring group

* 8. Advisory firm that impressed

This question is targeted at non-law firms in the restructuring sphere.

Was there a particular restructuring advisory firm that impressed during the research period? Perhaps court-appointed officers from a certain insolvency practitioners' firm had an especially successful year?
