The Tightrope is inspired by real people living in Stoke-On-Trent, striving to do their best by their families. Rising living costs. Unstable work. Low wages. Cuts and freezes to social security. More and more families feel trapped by a lack of financial options that limit their children’s lives and futures.
Day to day, it’s a difficult balancing act to make sure their families are provided for, with an unreliable safety net to catch them if they fall.
The pandemic has taught us how quickly our lives can turn upside down. It’s also reminded us how important it is to support each other through tough times.
We are hoping to better understand what local people think about the issues the statue is illustrating, and what they think should be done, if anything, to address them. If you visited the statue in Stoke-On-Trent, we’d be grateful if you shared your thoughts.
Feedback is anonymous and we will use these insights to understand whether we have portrayed the issues experienced by families effectively and to understand what, if anything Stoke-on-Trent people think should be done about the issues.
