Langholm Housing Survey
About This Survey
Is Langholm’s housing stock fit for purpose in the 21st century?
Do we need more homes for young people, first time buyers or those looking to accommodate a growing family?
What is available for those relocating for work, wishing to downsize or simply wishing to return to Langholm?
What type of housing do we require – assisted living, affordable or private market?
What approach would be favoured – private developer, housing association, community-led/local trust?
Working with The Stevenson Trust, South of Scotland Community Housing (SOSCH) are seeking your views on housing in Langholm.
We recognise that to keep the vitality and sustainability of our communities, housing is a key element. We all require suitable accommodation to meet our needs.
In undertaking this survey, we intend to develop an understanding of the scale and type of locally affordable housing need in Langholm.
There are a range of different types of affordable housing – each of which may be delivered at varying scales by a Registered Social Landlord (Housing Association), Community Development Trust, developer or local charitable trust.
These include:
Social rent – housing provided at affordable rent;
Mid-market rent – private rented accommodation available at levels set below market rent, aimed at people on more modest incomes;
Low cost housing for sale – this can include Shared Equity Housing, Shared Ownership or the application of a Rural Housing Burden for discounted sale below market value. This housing is aimed at those who wish to own their home, but experience barriers to accessing home ownership at market values.
More detailed information on affordable housing in Dumfries and Galloway can be found here.
