4. Level 4 - Best Practice level

At Best Practice Level maritime organisations will have completed Levels 1-3. The maritime organisation will be actively safeguarding and promoting the health of seafarers and be committed to:
 
Active corporate policies to safeguard and promote health that are implemented companywide. These will be over and above legal duties and guidelines, for instance:
 
  • Facilities in ship’s hospital for video conferencing with state or privately provided TMAS.
  • Direct access by seafarers to confidential telemedical advice.
    Health insurance for crewmembers (and families)
  • Medical/psychological counselling on health improvement
  • Active rehabilitation programmes to return ill or injured seafarers to work
  • In house or external access to professionally qualified sources of maritime health expertise providing both clinical and preventative policy advice on employee health on a regular basis.
  • Audit of provisions and outputs/outcomes in consultation with seafarer representatives

  • Partially Achieved - to be achieved in the short-term next 6 months
  • Not Achieved - to be achieved in the long-term beyond next year
