1. Survey of parent/carer experience in Hackney

What is this survey about?
This survey is being carried by HiP to collect feedback from parent/carers’ on their experience of services for children and young people aged 0-25 years with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) in Hackney.
Who is carrying out the survey?
HiP, (Hackney’s independent forum for parent/carers of children with disabilities) is carrying out this survey. We are Hackney’s independent parent/carer forum funded by the Department of Education.
How will the information/data be used?
In line with the Data Protection Act 1988, we will analyse the data and share the anonymised findings with inspectors from Ofsted and the CQC (Care Quality Commission). Data will also be shared with the London Borough of Hackney.
When will the inspectors come to Hackney?
We don’t know for sure. It could at any time. Inspectors will give Hackney services five days’ notice of an inspection. Findings from this survey will help give the inspectors (and us) a fuller picture of how parents/carers experience local services.
Why do they inspect?
SEND area inspections are carried out to find out how well local services:
• Identify children’s and young people’s special educational needs and/or disabilities
• Meet those needs
• Improve outcomes for those children and young people.
Why are parents’ views important?
Parents’ and carers’ views are a very important part of the inspection. Ofsted will want to meet parents on their visits and will also hold meetings with parent representatives including the parent carer forum (HiP). This survey will help HiP to reflect the views of a wide group of parents.
The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete and the information you give us is confidential and anonymous.
