National Milestones and Indicators to measure our nation's progress - how can the voluntary sector be involved?

WCVA is keen to understand the voluntary sector’s knowledge of, and engagement with, Welsh Government’s work on developing National Indicators and Milestones, intended to measure the progress of Wales as a nation. Welsh Government have stated that ‘setting national milestones against these indicators can help galvanise collective action, as well as helping us to understand progress towards achievement of the well-being goals’.

Please see the consultation page for more information on this work.

Below is a short survey intended to help us build a picture of the sector’s involvement. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Please contact David Cook, WCVA Policy Officer, with any questions.

This survey will close on Friday 15 October 2021.
1.What is your level of awareness of the National Milestones/Indicators programme? (1 - not at all aware; 5 - very much aware)

2.Is it important for the sector to be engaged in this work?
3.‘Percentage of people who volunteer’ is currently an indicator feeding into several of the indicators. These indicators will, in turn, inform a number of milestones: ‘a million Welsh speakers by 2050’, ‘Wales will achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050’, ‘At least 90% of 16-24 year olds will be in education, employment or training by 2050’, ‘Reduce the percentage of children with fewer than two healthy behaviours to 6% by 2035 and less than 1% by 2050’, and ‘Wales will only use its fair share of the world’s resources by 2050’.

How do you believe the voluntary sector can contribute to these milestones?
4.Do you feel that ‘the number of people volunteering’ should be a milestone of its own?
5.If your organisation is in receipt of funding from Welsh Government, how would you feel were a requirement introduced asking you to report how said funding has contributed to the National Indicators? (Please note: Welsh Government have not stated this as an intended policy.)
6.The following questions are optional. Please only complete if you are happy for WCVA to potentially get in touch with you for further details on your responses.
