Property flood resilience training and information 2020 |
We are conducting a survey on the accessibility and quality of training and information relating to property flood resilience (PFR), as part of work by the Environment Agency to increase the uptake and quality of PFR. This will inform better information provision, more skilled professionals and more assurance for property owners and occupiers that PFR schemes will be delivered to a high standard.

Property flood resilience (PFR) is a term covering action by householders or businesses that will either stop flood water entering a property or reduce the level of damage if there is internal flooding. Examples include installing non return valves on waste pipes, airbrick covers, using flood resistant coatings on walls and using flood barriers to stop water coming through doorways.
There is a need to rapidly increase the number of homes and businesses made more resilient through the installation of PFR measures. Properties can be rapidly brought back into use, reducing business costs and losses. Reducing the time people are out of a property after a flood significantly improves their well-being and mental health.
The quality of work undertaken in delivering PFR can have a real bearing on how well it works during and after a flood. The Property Flood Resilience Code of Practice (CoP) has been developed to set out standards to which PFR work should be delivered in future.
To help build a transparent and skilled industry to deliver PFR to the standards set by the CoP, we are researching the adequacy of current information and training provision, and the future training needs of the industry.
