Introduction:

The London Borough of Bexley is currently considering the implementation of a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO)  in Bexleyheath. Before a final decision is taken, this matter is open to public consultation via this survey.

PSPOs are intended to prevent individuals or groups committing anti-social behaviour in a public space where the behaviour is having, or is likely to have, a detrimental effect on the quality of life of those in the locality; be persistent or continuing in nature; and be unreasonable. The PSPO will initially be implemented for one year, but can be extended to a maximum of 3 years.

Over the last six months, the Partnership has witnessed an increase in anti-social behaviour related reports in and around Bexleyheath Broadway. Between March and July 2016, four separate 48-hour dispersal orders were put in place by the police. Through police powers to disperse persons from the area acting anti-socially, the dispersal orders have been successful in helping to reduce and deter disorder and violence, particularly during peak times.

The power to make a PSPO rests with local authorities, in consultation with the police and other relevant bodies and persons who may be affected.

The proposed prohibited activities to be included in the PSPO are as follows:

a) Behaving in a manner which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to another person

b) Using pedal cycles, skateboards, roller blades, hover boards or other similar devices in any pedestrianised area identified in the PSPO

c) Playing any type of ball games in any pedestrianised area identified in the PSPO.

Bexley Community Safety Partnership would like your feedback on your experience of anti-social behaviour in and around the Bexleyheath Broadway area. Your comments will help us shape and deliver services and protection orders for the community.
