Thank you for your interest in joining the RIBA Planning Group. Please complete the form by the 13 September 2018 and send your CV to the Practice Department, practice@riba.org. Please outline in the email that you are applying to join the Planning Group. We will consider all applications and respond by the beginning of October 2018.

The group advises on the formulation and implementation of relevant RIBA policy, which seeks to influence the government's views on improving planning policy and implementation, with particular reference to the importance of sustainable development and good design.

The Planning Group also identifies and highlights issues affecting architects in practice and helps the RIBA develop guidance on navigating the planning system.

Membership is mainly made up of RIBA registered architects but we also welcome and encourage applications from suitably qualified non-architects with relevant skills and experience such as planners.

We welcome applications from all sections of the architectural community and aim for the group to reflect a wide range of experience, background, regional representation and practice size. Where possible we aim for an even gender split.

Group members are expected to attend 3 meetings annually and to respond to occasional email requests for input into RIBA responses to government consultations. The meetings are an opportunity to discuss current industry and policy issues and to provide input in relevant RIBA activities. Failure to attend two consecutive meetings will terminate membership.

If you are concerned about your ability to attend group meetings in person due to any mobility issues, please get in touch to discuss options for remote participation.

Members may also be invited to contribute to RIBA media and communications, speak at RIBA or other industry events or to give oral evidence to government. These latter activities are all voluntary.

Group members are expected to act in the interests of the RIBA, the profession and the public and not to represent their individual or company commercial interests.

The initial term of membership is 2 years. Membership may be renewed for a further two terms to a maximum of 6 years.
