Many people have experienced issues with damp and mould in their property at some point.  Even in warm, well looked after properties mould growth can occur in some parts of the home, especially in the colder months.  Most mould growth people will experience is most likely to be the result of condensation, however some instances of mould may be the result of damp from a building defect.

If you have damp and mould in your home you're more likely to have respiratory problems, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma. Damp and mould can also affect the immune system.

Moulds produce allergens (substances that can cause an allergic reaction), irritants and, sometimes, toxic substances. Inhaling or touching mould spores may cause an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, a runny nose, red eyes and skin rash. Moulds can also cause asthma attacks.

Rushcliffe Borough Council is carrying out a survey to find out how prevalent damp and mould is in privately rented houses and how they can work with landlords and tenants to manage the risks that mould can cause. If you are a tenant with a private landlord and live in Rushcliffe we want to hear from you whether or not you suffer with damp and mould issues.
