What are your ‘go-to’ coping mechanisms to help you manage shifts or living with someone who does?

What advice would you give to someone about to start shift work?

These are things people have told us they do when managing shifts. Do you find yourself doing any of these?
Putting ‘don’t ring the bell’ or ‘don’t knock’ signs on your front door to avoid being woken up in the day
Having breakfast at dinner time
Drying your hair or shaving your beard in a ‘strange’ place to keep noise down
Avoiding creaky floorboards
Leaving your clothes in unusual places in an effort to keep noise down
Sleeping in a separate room or on the sofa
Brushing your teeth in a strange place
Sneaking into your home to avoid security lights
Parking further away to avoid making too much noise
Blocking out light from under the door with a towel
Using a torch (or your phone) around the house to avoid putting lights on
Tiptoeing around pets
