VAS has been working with leading Sheffield employers John Lewis, ARM, ARUP, Henry Boot, Irwin Mitchell and Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam Universities to develop the Responsible Business Forum in Sheffield.

This collaboration aims to more strategically connect and harness the resources of the private and voluntary sectors to be a powerful force for good in the City.

Through this work, a national business with a Sheffield base has donated 230 Dell Desktop computers and we can now offer these to Sheffield Charities.

We will prioritise charities working to address universal credit access issues.

These PC's are a few years old but they good quality Dell PC's and are a similar spec to lots of the PC's that staff at VAS are currently using so they are fine for most things.

The computers were donated without hard drives so we have teamed up with Aspire Community Enterprise (Sheffield) - a charity who can make them ready to use so there is a small charge for the parts and their time to do this.

The charge will be from £40 - £75 per PC.
The standard cost for a PC like this would be between £140 - £195 per PC.
The standard cost for a laptop like this would be £130-£150

Technical Specs of the PC's
There is a mix of the following PC's:
Dell Optiplex 3010 SFF PC, I3 3rd Gen 3220 3.30 GhZ, 4 Gb DDR3 Memory

The PC's are fairly similar spec will be allocated as they come, without a choice of which version you get. This is to simplify the admin and distribution of the PC's.
To request a PC, or multiple PC's please complete the survey below so we can establish the need across the city.

Lenovo X320 laptops available:- i5 3220, 3rd generation 2.6Ghz, 4GB memory, 12.5" screen.

What if i don't have any money?

Perhaps you are a local foodbank, community library or small group with no or limited funding. If you are going to use these to help people affected by Universal Credit, please complete the survey, saying how many PC's you need and indicate how many you can afford.
We are using our networks to try and identify funding but there is no garuantee we will get any. If we don't, PC's will be given to those who can afford to pay for them.

Involving employee volunteers:

Staff from businesses will all have computer skills and may be able to support universal credit claimants to use the computers.
If you think you could involve people please say below.
Bear in mind that staff typically have 7-14 hours a year to volunteer so they might only come once, and definitely won't be able to give a regular commitment. If you think this could work, or have any other ideas for involving employee volunteers in your organisation please say so below.

Thank you and next steps:

This survey is open from 29th October to 16th November.

We will notify organisations on 22nd November with details of how to pay for / collect the PC's from Aspire.

If we are oversubscribed with groups who can pay for PC's, and haven't identified funding,  unfortunately we will offer the PC's to those who are able to pay.

If you are working with clients on benefits who want to buy these laptops for personal use, please ask them to contact Aspire directly on 0114 213 4085.

The laptops are also available to staff, people not on benefits for an additional £25 directly from Aspire.
