We are now entering the 80th year since Diana Broughton, sister of the third Lord De Ramsey, expressed a wish upon her death that the Ramsey Grammar School should relocate to the Abbey Manor. The impressive building was leased to the governors of the Grammar School in May 1938, at the nominal annual rent of £1.
Much has changed in Ramsey since then but this generous donation has meant that thousands of students from the town have had the opportunity to be educated in the building during this time. This year we want the community to come together to celebrate the generosity of the family, the history of our school and the impact this has had on the town over the years.
However the facilities in both the Manor and the Ailwyn buildings are ageing and many
of them are becoming unsuitable for the demands of a 21st century education. Most lessons are now taught in buildings that are for over 50 years old and despite the recent successes at Abbey College, we believe the buildings are holding the school and the community back from even greater success.
Therefore during this celebratory year we are launching a campaign to highlight the need for further improvements and investment in the school’s buildings in order for the College to continue to offer the high quality education that the people of Ramsey deserve. We believe that Ramsey families deserve more.
