Question Title

What is the survey about?

The Mental Health Consortium has been commissioned to investigate how to best help people with severe mental illness to stop smoking. The project, which is funded by the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance, will report on challenges and successes in this area, and it will make recommendations on how interventions can be improved.
Is this survey for me?

If you are an adult (18 years-old or older) who has a severe mental illness and you have smoked tobacco at any point in your life, we would like to hear from you.

By severe mental illness, we mean psychological problems that are often severe enough to seriously limit your ability to work and to do day-to-day activities. You might have a diagnosis of an enduring psychotic disorder, a personality disorder, an eating disorder, an anxiety disorder, a mood disorder or something else.

If you are a practitioner, commissioner or voluntary, community and social enterprise working in this field, and you would like to contribute to this project, please follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WorkInServicesHelpingPeopleWithSMI.
What do I need to do?

On the next page, you’ll be given some information about the survey. If you decide to take part, you’ll be asked some questions about your mental health, your experiences of smoking and, if you’ve tried to quit, your experiences of stopping smoking. The information you provide is confidential and survey takes about ten minutes to complete.
Why might people take part?

By taking part in the survey, you’ll be helping us to understand the experiences, preferences and needs of people with severe mental illness who smoke tobacco.  This is your opportunity to help influence how services are delivered in the future.
Do I have to take part?

No, it’s up to you to decide whether or not to take part. You can end the survey at any point or leave questions blank if you don't want to answer them.
What will happen to my data?
  • We will not ask you to provide any information that could be used to identify you.
  • We will only use your answers in the ways we need to for the research project and the ways you expect us to.
  • We will take care to safeguard the information you provide through secure systems and governance policies.
What will happen to the results of the survey?

We will use the results of the survey to help us make recommendations about interventions and schemes designed to help people with severe mental illness to stop smoking. When the project is completed in 2020, information about the findings will be available at https://www.england.nhs.uk/hwalliance/ and www.equallywell.co.uk
What are the risks of taking part in the survey?

There are no serious risks associated with taking part in the survey. In the unlikely event that you find any of the questions difficult or upsetting, please contact us and we will do everything we can to help you find someone to speak to if you feel you need further support.
