Calling all 2019 and 2020 graduates!

You know more than most that the last 12months have been immensely challenging, and we cannot begin to understand how difficult it must be to navigate the landscape as a new graduate vet. What resilience you have shown, you are a credit to the profession!

We know that traditionally the VDS Graduate Reunion events are earmarked on the calendar for many, providing an opportunity to catch up with friends, exchange stories and gain some solidarity, as well as acquire expert insights from the VDS team and the wider profession.

“Catching up with colleagues, hearing about their difficulties and realising we are all in the same boat was so valuable, it didn’t feel like 7 hours CPD!”

Whilst we would have loved to host live graduate reunion events in 2021, sadly the unpredictable nature of the world at present means this isn’t possible. We know this news might be disappointing, it is for us as well - we will miss seeing you in person! Although there are many things that a virtual event won’t be able to emulate, we want to focus on what we can create to help you.

We’re looking to create a one–day virtual event, accounting for around 6 hours of CPD, and currently an investment of circa £35.

We’d be really grateful if you’d help us to ensure we are meeting your needs as new and recent graduates by taking a little time to fill in the following survey. The survey should take no longer than 5-10mins to complete. We are open to all comments and suggestions and we appreciate your time.

As a thank you, you will also have the opportunity to be entered into a prize draw to win your place for free!

Question Title

* 1. Are you a 2019 or 2020 graduate?

Question Title

* 2. If you could have more support with three things post-graduation, what would it be?
(Select up to three options or add in your own answer)

Question Title

* 3. We acknowledge that those in the 2019 and 2020 year groups are at different career stages,  dealing with different species and career paths. We want to be sure everyone’s needs are catered for.

If the content on the day was to be split into multiple streams, which split would be most attractive to you as a delegate? Please bear in mind that you could move between the two.

Question Title

* 4. We understand timing on the day is key and with a virtual event, we have the opportunity to adapt our start and finish times to suit you. Which of the following times would you prefer?

Question Title

* 5. In previous years, the VDS were joined by sponsors and supporters such as the RCVS,BVA and BSAVA, are there any other organizations or key influencers that you’d like to see as part of this event?

Question Title

* 6. In the past, these events have been a time to learn and form connections. This year, we will be bringing graduates from all the vet schools together in a virtual setting and this brings new opportunities. We’d love to know what you’d find most important from this event.

(Please rank in order of preference, 1 - most important, 5 - less important)

Question Title

* 7. Having a strong support network as a new graduate can be really helpful, and part of that might include building friendships with other new and recent graduates, as well as other veterinary professionals and organisations. If the VDS were to offer a networking session during the day, allowing the opportunity to speak to, connect/re-connect and form new contacts, would this be of interest to you?

(This would likely involve small breakout sessions on Zoom and give you the opportunity to exchange contact details with those with similar interests or in your area, or re-connect with uni friends and catch up)

Question Title

* 8. We want this event to be as useful as possible, and tailored to suit you. If the VDS did create a networking session, what size groups and structure would you feel most comfortable with? Theoretically, the session could be one hour in total, with the opportunity to meet different groups (e.g. 30minute sessions means you could meet two different groups).

Question Title

* 9. If the VDS were to run a Virtual Graduate Reunion on Saturday 02 October 2021 for both 2019 and 2020 graduate vets, would you come along?
