St George's Hill Residents' Association

Security Questionnaire

To review and guide the future security provision of our estate.

Introduction.  We mentioned at the AGM and in the Spring Newsletter that we would be seeking owners’ views on how security on the estate is carried out – both in terms of the current and future provisions.  The current contract with “Alliance” costs c.£924K annually and is due to be reviewed in March 2024    In preparation for this, we wish to give owners the opportunity to express their views to help shape and guide future provision.

Overview.  There are many views on how security should be carried out on the estate.  When giving your responses to the questionnaire please bear in mind that St George’s Hill is not an estate that is completely fenced all the way around its perimeter – and there should not be any misunderstanding that the estate is seeking to be, or can be, completely secure.  This is an unrealistic expectation and responsibility for protecting and securing an individual property is up to an individual owner.   SGHRA is only responsible for controlling access and monitoring the common areas by CCTV and patrols.

Current security staff provision.  The current provision is four staff, all day everyday: Old Avenue and Brooklands entrance gates, a mobile patrol, and a mobile security team leader.

Up to three months ago, there were 24 CCTV cameras principally at the entrances to the estate.  This has since increased by a further 15 cameras.  To increase CCTV to cover all the main communal areas of the estate, we will need around 100 cameras.  These will only ever cover communal areas and in accordance with GDPR legislation are not allowed to view into any private property.

The current limited provision of CCTV is monitored on a periodic basis by the gate security staff, amongst their other duties.  It is however recorded on a permanent basis, and the footage remains available for 30 days.

In addition, four years ago a security dog patrol was added for three months (November – January) each night (at a cost of c.£25K).)
