Exploring physical activity advice and guidance offered during fertility treatment: The healthcare professionals' perspective

Participant information sheet

A research study is being conducted at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) by lead researcher: Stacey Draper
Background
The study aims to assess whether healthcare professionals offer physical activity advice and guidance to patients receiving fertility treatment and to determine influencing factors.
This research project is funded by spear at Canterbury Christ Church University.

What will you be required to do?
Participants in this study will be required to complete a survey on physical activity advice and guidance offered to women* undergoing fertility treatment and potential associated factors. The survey is voluntary meaning you do not have to take part. If you agree to participate, you will be asked to read and sign a consent form. You can withdraw from the study at any time without consequences. If you do not click submit on the final page of the survey your answers will not be recorded and all data provided will be lost. You will be given the option to provide your email address if you are happy to take part in a follow-up interview. This will involve similar questions to those answered within the survey but with the opportunity to explore things in more detail. If selected for interview, you will be sent an email inviting you to take part and a virtual or telephone conversation will be scheduled at a convenient time to conduct the interview.
*Where referring to 'women', this should be taken to include people who do not identify as women but who are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

To participate in this research you must:

· Be a registered healthcare professional who currently works or has previously worked (last 6 months) with women undergoing fertility treatment cycle(s); and

· Speak, read and understand English

Procedures
You will be asked to read and sign a consent form before the survey questions begin. You must click ‘submit’ on the final page of the survey so that your data is collected. If you are happy to potentially take part in further research, you will be asked to leave your email address and if selected the lead researcher will contact you and schedule an interview. The interviews will be audio recorded to improve accuracy of data collection and for analysis purposes. Once the interview has been transcribed you will be sent a copy of the typed transcription and asked to check that your answers have been correctly reported by the researcher.

Feedback
No immediate feedback will be available to participants, but the data collected throughout this research study may provide useful information about physical activity advice offered to women receiving fertility treatment.

Confidentiality and Data Protection
On the legal basis of legitimate interest all data and personal information will be stored securely within CCCU premises in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the University’s own data protection policies.  No unrelated or unnecessary personal data will be collected or stored. The following categories of personal data will be processed; email addresses will be collected if disclosed by the participant, age and ethnicity data will also be collected. Personal data will be used to contact participants and arrange an interview for the second phase of the research study. Age and ethnicity will be collected to be used in the analysis part of the study. Data can only be accessed by the lead researcher; Stacey Draper, the researcher’s supervisory panel (Dr Marlize de Vivo and Dr Haley Mills) and examiners if required. Data will not be transferred outside of the European Economic Area.

After completion of the study, all data will be made anonymous (i.e. all personal information associated with the data will be removed) and held for a period of 5 years after the award of the lead researcher’s degree.
Dissemination of results
The findings from this study will be used to inform future studies within a larger research project (PhD thesis). The data collected from survey responses and the notes, analysis and outputs from survey and interview data will be used to anonymously present findings in the researcher’s thesis and any subsequent conferences and/or publications. The final PhD thesis will be published in the CCCU library and EthOS: : http://ethos.bl.uk/ The British Library’s “Electronic Theses Online Service”.
