  • We engage with our grantees and applicants to identify what non-financial support they need to maximise their impact 
  • We regularly review the nature of the funding relationship, and the extent to which we are genuinely relational or transactional in our approach and think about supporting relationships between fundees for mutual benefit
  • We consider whether we are able to provide non-financial support or where we can signpost to other sources of support, and articulate these clearly
  • We recognise any power imbalance that exists between us and those we fund, and seek to minimise it

  • We demonstrate empathy and flexibility with applicants and funded organisations, actively engage with them, listen to what they are saying and respond accordingly
  • We seek to identify patterns and themes emerging in our reporting processes, probe the reasons why, and are willing and able to act upon issues we observe

  • We actively seek to learn both from within and beyond the foundation sector about excellent funding practices, are proactive in seeking feedback and act upon it, in a continual process of improvement
  • We ensure that we take into account diverse voices, including those who have historically been unsuccessful in funding applications or relevant  groups that rarely apply
  • We think collaboratively to learn from others, increase impact and avoid duplication
  • We seek feedback as a core component of our strategic development to ensure that feedback on funding practices and processes is heard and acted on at all levels of the organisation
