ABOUT THIS SURVEY

HELLO! Do you run your own business or work from home/remotely in Tiverton or in surrounding villages/areas? If so please help us to help you!

We have been commissioned by Mid Devon District Council to research the potential demand for a Workhub in the centre of Tiverton at the Market Centre in Newport Street.

A workhub (also known as a coworking space) is a workspace which provides services to members as and when they need them - an alternative to taking a separate office away from home. Users can drop in to work, meet and access services, or can make use of virtual services. They can also be centres for collaboration and networking. The people who might want to use a Tiverton Workhub could include homeworkers, professionals/freelancers and other micro businesses in all sectors. Increasingly local people work remotely for employers from outside Devon. And Devon already has high numbers of people running their own businesses from home or on the move.

To understand the potential demand for a Tiverton Workhub we need to find out about how you work today. But we also want to know what you want in the future: so we have included questions on ideas that might (or might not) appeal to you to help you grow your business or work more effectively as a remote employee.

The survey should only take around 5-10 minutes, with most questions requiring just a simple checking of a box. However we do value the comments you make - so please do tell us anything you'd like us to know in the comment boxes. It can be difficult to reach people who regularly work from home. Please can you help us to do this by passing on this survey to any friends/contacts who do so anywhere in the Mid Devon area? Many thanks!

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Mid Devon District Council has been funded to commission research into a new use of its Market Centre building. This study will be used to provide evidence to a bid to the Government's Shared Prosperity Fund. At the heart of the proposal is a completely remodelled and redesigned building to provide a modern flexible workspace for local people and businesses. The location is right in the heart of the town with a car park outside, so it is easy to reach and a good location to encourage town centre vitality in Tiverton. If the project goes ahead it will help businesses and remote workers access great facilities to help them work more effectively and not suffer isolation working 100% at home.

IMPORTANT:
You do not need to answer any question you find awkward. However we do want to stress that your identity will remain entirely confidential. The Council will not see who has responded to this survey. Your anonymity WILL be protected unless you tell us otherwise. We are registered for data protection and will not pass your details on to any third party. We promise there is no risk of spam/direct mail resulting from your participation!

MORE ABOUT US:
This survey is being conducted by Workhubs Network Community Interest Company, the social enterprise that supports independent coworking spaces (see www.workhubs.com). We also run two successful workhubs in Cornwall. We have 110 members, with over 60 people working regularly in our spaces. We also host 60 mailboxes. We contribute around £200,000 pa to the local economy as measured by jobs/businesses created on site and businesses assisted.  We have helped our members to create over 50 new jobs since we first launched ten years ago.
