First Survey Of 2019: A Hopeful Start To The Year

First Survey Of 2019: A Hopeful Start To The Year

Americans are hopeful about what 2019 has in store for themselves and—to a lesser extent—for the country. More than three quarters (76%) of adults in the U.S. in a new Axios|SurveyMonkey poll say they are more hopeful than fearful about what 2019 has in store for them personally, up five percentage points from last year (71%).

People are less confident when thinking bigger:

  • 51% are more hopeful than fearful about what 2019 has in store for the world in general
  • 65% expect 2019 to be a good year for the U.S. economy
  • 54% expect 2019 to be a good year for Democrats in Congress
  • 46% expect 2019 to be a good year for Republicans in Congress
  • 43% expect 2019 to be a good year for President Trump
