NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll: coronavirus and the economy

Health-related coronavirus concerns top economic concerns in a new NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll, with 56% of the country saying the coronavirus outbreak is more of a health crisis and 43% saying it is more of an economic crisis for the country as a whole. When thinking about themselves, a nearly identical 56% say it is more of a health crisis and 42% say it is more of an economic crisis.

Half the country is “very worried” about a potential second wave of the coronavirus, but a little more than a third of all people (36%) say they are “very worried” they or someone in their family will be exposed to the virus. However, 65% say they are “very worried” that the coronavirus outbreak will have a negative economic effect on the country as a whole, and 41% are “very worried” that it will have a negative economic effect on their own household’s finances.

Almost no one (3%) says the current state of the economy is “excellent,” though Republicans are more likely than Democrats or independents to take this view (5% vs. 1% and 1%). Most people say the state of the economy is fair or poor (44% and 32%, respectively).
