This page describes our International Data Center offerings, which allow customers to choose the storage location of specified types of data.

Apply and SurveyMonkey customers may opt to store certain types of data in our Canadian Data Center, and SurveyMonkey and GetFeedback customers may opt to store certain types of data in our European Union Data Center, as specified below and in your SurveyMonkey contract.

Customers making use of the international data center should be aware that data may be accessed from outside of the data center's geographic location in order to implement, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, or upgrade the services. For example, the tools we use to detect abuse of our services through spamming or phishing are located in the U.S. We also provide technical support, customer support, and billing support from personnel located in the U.S., Canada, Europe, India, Costa Rica, the Philippines, and Australia, and our personnel may access your account to provide you with assistance if you contact our support teams (and have not opted-out of customer support) and to communicate with the Primary Admin of an account regarding general account administration (for example, notifications related to outages, overages, or operational changes). Additionally, if you choose to connect third party apps to your account, those third parties may transfer personal data outside of SurveyMonkey's specified data storage region in order to provide their services to you. Before connecting third party apps, you are responsible for ensuring the app’s data practices meet your data residency requirements.

To check which data center your account is hosted within you can:
1. Log into your account and navigate to the ‘My Account’ page; or
2. Check the URL when you log into your account. For example, SurveyMonkey customers leveraging the European Data Center will see their account domain begin with https://eu.surveymonkey.com; or
3. Contact your Customer Success Manager.

Apply customers who opened accounts with us prior to 2017, SurveyMonkey customers who opened accounts with us prior to 2019, and Getfeedback Direct customers who opened accounts with us prior to 2023 are not able to store the questions and responses to their surveys in Canada or the European Union, and we are unable to migrate their pre-existing survey questions and responses to the Canadian or European Union Data Centers.

For GetFeedback Direct customers making use of the European Data Center, account information such as login information, respondent contact information (such as email, phone number and IP address), billing details, and account metadata are stored in our European Data Center's cloud storage.

For SurveyMonkey users, only your survey questions and responses from your survey takers will be stored in our cloud storage solutions in the European Data Center.

Other data about your accounts (including personal data about account holders) such as User IDs, billing contact information, usernames and non-personal information about the account (e.g. number of seats, package IDs, account feature information and activities in the account, survey deploy status, question type, and questions) will also be stored in the United States to enable us to produce reports, undertake analytics, contact you, and facilitate customer account management. All customer data is potentially accessible to a limited number of security, support and engineering personnel residing in locations where we have employee entities, on a least privileged basis to provide support, security and service maintenance services.

If you use the AI-powered survey generation feature, your survey prompts will be sent to a vendor in the US for processing.

Additionally, de-identified response data may be transferred to the United States for the purposes of facilitating product enhancement and improvement as well as for bug fixing and service monitoring. For further information about how personal data is processed in the US and Europe you can read our Privacy Notice.

If you opened an Apply account before June 15, 2023, your account leveraged the Canadian Data Center by default. If you are a new Apply customer and would like to elect to store your data in a specific location, please speak to your Account Executive.

For SurveyMonkey and Apply customers making use of our Canadian Data Center, your survey/application questions and responses will be stored in our Canadian Data Center.

All other account information such as login information, respondent contact information (such as email, phone number, and IP address), billing details, and account metadata will continue to be stored in the United States. Additionally, de-identified response data may be transferred to the United States for the purposes of facilitating product enhancement and improvement as well as for bug fixing and service monitoring.

Unless otherwise specified, your data will be stored in our US data centers.

We leverage the Amazon Web Services platform and its multiple Availability Zones within the various regions. This means that we replicate customer data across multiple availability zones, but keep your data within the AWS regions in which our Data Centers reside. For example, your data may be replicated across multiple instances within the US, but will not be stored in the US. This approach allows us to maintain business continuity and comply with our disaster recovery plan.

Since we offer 24/7 customer support around the world and technical support in many different locations, we do not offer a plan which provides complete data lock down within the US. Certain service personnel will have access to customer data on an “as needed” basis, to ensure our service runs smoothly and securely, and to provision 24 hour support. However, we can commit to restricting the storage of your data to one jurisdiction and we maintain least privileged access controls in all regions. In addition personal information in certain environments will be encrypted/hashed so that only non-personal information is viewable.
